Mayor Nancy Smith will deliver Maricopa’s next State of the City address next week, offering residents a look back at the past year and a preview of what lies ahead.
Last year’s address leaned into a LEGO theme focused on building a stronger Maricopa. This year, the mayor is trading colorful construction bricks for books.
The theme for the Wednesday, Feb. 11 event is “Writing Maricopa’s Story,” which the city says centers around “the choices that we make today are the tales we will tell tomorrow.”
Smith told InMaricopa the event creates space for residents to pause and reflect.
“It allows citizens to take the time to look back at what has been accomplished,” she said, noting that reflection can often be overlooked.
“We’ll be sharing an insightful review. We’ll also share some fun things to look forward to in 2026,” Smith said. “I hope to challenge attendees at the end to take the information they gain and share.”
The address will be held at Desert Sunrise High School’s auditorium. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the address begins at 6 p.m. Seats can be reserved through this link.
Residents who cannot attend in person can watch a livestream on the city’s YouTube channel or view the recording later in the week.

Great, let’s talk about the the massively overbuilding of apartments with no jobs to support the new residents. The massive failure of the economic department led by a 180,000.00 dollar per year plus perks failure that sold the city on needed affordable housing for teachers, police and firefighters.22 thousand of them?Mayor, you and others ruined our once safe city and now your going to sit on your thrown and tout how great you are.Pathetic!
Y’know, you’re supposed to put a space after commas, periods, question marks, and exclamation marks. Also, it is spelled “throne”.
Why is it being held at DSHS’s student commons? Surely there are better places to host this than there.
Gunner……arrest me.
What?
