Nicolas Yendrzeski: Why he’s running for the MUSD board

Nicolas Yendrzeski.

I’ve been an active participant and voice within my community to better the wellbeing of the people. Having been inspired by our country’s founding fathers, I strive to be a public servant to my community and the flag.

I began my educational career at Maricopa Elementary School and graduated from Maricopa High School in May of 2024. Therefore, I’ve seen the ins and outs of this district, the bureaucracy, the power dynamic between administrators, the good, the bad and everything in between.

I’ve been down the path of wanting to enact change, and let me tell you, it is a deliberately lengthy path with various obstacles, but that hasn’t stopped me yet. I refuse to stand by and do nothing so long as our education system remains self-defeating.

I see this role as the start of a lifetime of engaging in my responsibilities as an American citizen and my right to civically participate. I’m committed to ensuring that today’s students are well-equipped to become the future leaders of tomorrow’s America.

Priorities:

Civic education: Expand civic education so students are better prepared to participate in the American political system and make informed decisions if they choose to become civically active.

Communication: Increase dialogue among students, parents, teachers and administrators and make it easier for students to advocate for themselves.

Technology: Use technology as an aid to prepare students for changing industries without allowing it to replace proven learning methods, books, writing and civil discourse.

The idea of a third space is a gathering spot that isn’t work or home. Think a place like the cozy Central Perk coffee shop in "Friends" or the bar where everybody knows your name in "Cheers." Maricopa, what’s your favorite third space?
