As mentioned in June, Mountainside Fitness is once again looking to open a Maricopa location.  

Phoenix-based Evolve Ventures submitted pre-application paperwork to bring a 40,000-square-foot Mountainside Fitness near the intersection of John Wayne Parkway and Honeycutt Avenue, according to public records obtained by InMaricopa.  

The gym will sit immediately south of Lowe’s Home Improvement and Trulieve Dispensary.  

So far, the details remain slim but a project narrative said the gym will offer “local residents convenience access to top-tier athletic training facilities, group fitness spaces and supportive health amenities.” 

Mountainside Fitness is the largest locally-owned fitness chain, with over 20 locations in Arizona and a handful more slated to open later this year. 

In 2006, Hatten Holdings hoped to open a location in Maricopa and purchased a lot on the southwest corner of John Wayne Parkway and Edison Road. 

However, they announced two years later they wouldn’t open as planned despite breaking ground. The vice president at the time, Billy Malkovich, cited delays related to the city as well as poor timing for such a large investment.  

A construction timeline for the Maricopa location has not yet been confirmed.
