Maricopa’s development map gained a few more pins this week.
“Multiple noteworthy applications” moved forward this week, according to an update Mayor Nancy Smith shared on Facebook from City Manager Ben Bitter.
Zzeek’s Pizza marked a definite return to the city after submitting a design package, including a site plan. The pizzeria previously backed out of the city after learning the additional $1 million in bringing utility and roadway improvements to a location on Honeycutt and Porter Roads.
That changed after city council approved a scallop ordinance in April, allowing infrastructure costs to be shared among future businesses on the site and repaid over 10 years through property liens.
Over in the Seven Ranches area, Head Start Preschool submitted paperwork to construct a location on Gunsmoke and Magnolia Roads. The 11,000-square-foot building will include four preschool classrooms, administrative offices and three playgrounds.
Beyond Food Mart is proposing to build a convenience story on the southwest corner of Bowlin and Hartman Roads. The California-based chain currently has one Arizona location attached to a Chevron station in Bullhead City.
It is the first signs of development at the intersection since former City Manager Rick Horst announced a retail center in 2024.
“This would be a much anticipated retail boost for residents in the eastern part of our community,” Bitter said.
Additionally, Mountainside Fitness also submitted a pre-application for a 40,000-square-foot gym south of Lowe’s Home Improvement.
Construction timelines have not yet been announced for any of the projects.
