Mountainside Fitness is taking shape on paper.
New architectural renderings offer the first look at the proposed gym planned south of Lowe’s Home Improvement, according to documents obtained last week through a public records request by InMaricopa.
The plans show a large entrance with the Mountainside Fitness logo, light-colored exterior walls, reddish-brown accents and a charcoal gray roof. Large windows line the front of the building, with desert landscaping surrounding the parking lot and entrance.
The project was first announced in June through a brief update from Mayor Nancy Smith. Two months later, Phoenix-based Evolve Ventures submitted pre-application paperwork for a 40,000-square-foot gym near John Wayne Parkway and Honeycutt Avenue, next to Lowe’s and Trulieve Dispensary.
The project would be the fitness chain’s second attempt to open a Maricopa location. An earlier proposal fell through in 2008 after the company cited city-related delays and poor timing for the investment.
Mountainside Fitness has more than 20 locations in Arizona. A construction timeline and opening date for the proposed gym have not been announced.
