Argument over truck ends with arrest near Interstate 8

What started as a simple argument over borrowing a truck ended with a broken window, an empty gas tank and a trip to jail.  

Police said Sage Maize, 25, stole his sister’s 2020 Dodge Ram from a Maricopa Meadows home around 8 p.m. June 12 after the two argued about using the vehicleHe allegedly started it because the key fob was sitting nearby, according to a probable cause statement. 

His freedom didn’t last long. 

About nine hours lateran Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper found a dehydrated Maize and the vehicle stranded near Interstate 8 and mile marker 134, midway between Gila Bend and Maricopa 

Maize allegedly locked himself out of the truck and broke one of the passenger windows to get back in, according to the probable cause statement. The vehicle was out of gas.  

Officers arrested Maize and booked him into Pinal County Jail on charges of stealing a vehicle and criminal damage. He faces up to two years in prison if convicted. A hearing is scheduled June 30.
