Dear Editor,
I am writing to encourage the residents of Maricopa to support Tena Dugan for City Council. I have had the privilege of knowing Tena for more than 20 years, and during that time I have witnessed her unwavering dedication to our community — especially our youth.
Tena’s commitment to Maricopa did not begin with a political campaign. It began years ago through countless hours of service — volunteering at concession stands so student groups and athletic teams could raise funds, helping students on the first day of school, supporting young athletes and families through Maricopa Little League, and showing up whenever her community needed her.
What stands out about Tena is that she has always served without seeking recognition. She gives her time because she believes in the importance of investing in young people and creating opportunities for them to succeed. Even after her own children graduated, her involvement continued. Many young people in our community know her affectionately as “Momma Dugs” because of the positive impact she has had on their lives.
Tena’s service includes involvement with the Maricopa Unified School District, the Be Awesome Youth Coalition, the Maricopa Booster Alliance, Community of Hope Church, and the City of Maricopa’s Parks & Recreation Committee. Her commitment has always been hands-on — listening, helping, and working to make our community stronger.
As Maricopa continues to grow, we need leaders who understand that supporting our youth means supporting the future of our entire city. Tena understands that strong families, safe opportunities, and community connections are the foundation of a thriving Maricopa.
I hope voters will recognize the years of dedication and service Tena Dugan has given to our community and consider supporting her for city council. She has already spent decades proving her commitment to Maricopa, and I believe she will continue to be a strong advocate for all residents.
Sincerely,
Patti Coutre
Maricopa Resident since 2005
