Maricopa’s newest traffic box art installation is nearly complete after two months of hard work.
Maricopa High School alum Kimberly Mask (’22) has spent “countless” hours on her newest art piece at Porter and Applegate Roads, the future site of a major new shopping center.
The piece, Stardrop Rain on the Desert, brings an oasis of color to a suburban desert street corner: “I really adore water,” the young artist told InMaricopa today of her piece that, for the most part, uses cool colors such as blue and purple.
“Water is the lifeblood of literally everything,” Mask added. “We’re mostly water, and especially in the desert, people don’t appreciate it enough.”
The art piece features a cloudy and starry night sky with raindrops falling to a lush foreground of native flora. Tying back to the stars, the raindrops are made to resemble meteors.
Mask anticipates completing this art piece within the next week, she said this morning.
Stardrop Rain on the Desert is the second public art piece Mask has painted in Maricopa.
She previously completed Copper Turquoise Skies, one of the first 10 wild horse statues painted and placed around the city as a part of its Public Arts Initiative. The horse is located at Bowlin Road and Alterra Parkway.
