Hauling SpaceX rockets and other oversized loads through Maricopa is going to become a little more complicated.
Beginning July 1, the City of Maricopa will require an oversized load permit before traveling through city limits, according to a news release issued Wednesday. Carriers previously only needed to email or call the city for travel clearance.
Starting July 15, carriers will be required to apply for the permit through the city’s online permitting portal at least three business days before the requested travel date. The city is open Monday through Thursday; Fridays, weekends and city-observed holidays do not count toward the three-day requirement.
The city recommends carriers apply early, warning that applications submitted with less than three business days’ notice may not be processed in time for the requested travel date.
