Central Arizona College students will soon have a new way to pay for textbooks.

The CAC Foundation received a donation from the college’s Support Staff Association to establish the 500 for 500 Book Scholarship. Beginning this fall, the scholarship will provide $500 per semester to help one student cover the cost of course books.

The scholarship is intended for students who don’t qualify for a federal Pell Grant or other book assistance. To be considered, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid along with the CAC Foundation scholarship application. Support staff will work with the college’s financial aid department to select a recipient each semester.

Craig Kurtz, executive director of institutional development, said additional donations could help the college offer more scholarships to students with financial need.
