Maricopa police responded to reports of a gunfight and person shot in the Lakes at Rancho El Dorado last night. Neither claim turned out to be true.
Officers responded to the 25500 block of Liles Lane around 9:15 p.m. after a 9-1-1 caller reported gunshots were being fired at a home, according to MPD spokesperson Monica Williams.
The caller, who was not immediately identified, reported a person in the home was firing back, and a family member had been struck.
“Officers arrived on the scene and quickly discovered no one was injured,” Williams said. “Following interviews with the parties involved, officers determined the initial report given was false, and the homeowner had fired at least two rounds from a handgun into the ground in their backyard.”
Police took possession of the handgun while charges are pending for unlawful discharge of a firearm and making a false report to the police.
