As Maricopa gathers for the 4th Annual Liermann Tournament, Way Wellness Psychiatry and Wells Counseling come together to honor a mother’s love, a son’s memory, and a community committed to protecting young lives.
Some people turn their deepest grief into a gift that reaches far beyond their own family. In Maricopa, Amber Liermann has done exactly that. After the heartbreaking loss of her son to suicide, Amber chose purpose over silence. She continues to stand up, show up, and create space for honest conversations so that other families do not have to carry the same pain alone.
As our community recognizes the 4th Annual Liermann Tournament, Way Wellness Psychiatry wants to pause and offer a sincere message of gratitude. Thank you, Amber. Your son’s life matters. His memory continues through every conversation this tournament inspires and through every young person who is reminded that help, hope, and support are still within reach.
Amber transformed unimaginable loss into a movement of love. Her son’s memory continues to inspire Maricopa’s commitment to its young people.” WAY WELLNESS PSYCHIATRY, MARICOPA
A Tribute Born from Love
The Liermann Tournament began as a mother’s act of love. It was created to honor her son, keep his spirit present, and turn tragedy into purpose. Four years later, it has become one of Maricopa’s most meaningful community traditions. It reminds our city to see our teenagers, listen to their struggles, and respond with compassion before silence becomes suffering.
Each year, Amber pours her heart into an event centered on life, resilience, connection, and community. Her courage in sharing her family’s story has opened conversations between parents and children, reduced stigma, and reminded Maricopa that mental health is not just a private concern. It is a shared responsibility.
Thank You, Wells Counseling

Our City, Our Fight
Teen suicide can affect any community, including one as vibrant and growing as Maricopa. The pain behind those losses is real, but so is the hope created when people choose to act. The Liermann Tournament shows how love, grief, courage, and determination can become something larger than one family’s loss. It becomes a call for all of us to notice, listen, and care.
To every young person in our city who may read this, your life has value. Your struggles are real, and help is available. You do not have to carry the weight of your pain by yourself.
Help Is Right Here in Maricopa
