City’s go-ahead the cherry on top for Baskin-Robbins

Baskin-Robbins is one scoop closer to re-entering the Maricopa market.

City officials on Monday gave the Canton, Mass.-based ice cream shop a new commercial tenant improvement permit, meaning owners can get started on interior construction soon — and Maricopans are a little closer to enjoying their choice of 31 flavors.

The storefront at 20350 N. John Wayne Parkway in the Sonoran Creek Marketplace still had a barebones appearance today. No signage exists outside, and the interior is simply wood framing, insulation and bare concrete floors.

However, Phoenix-based commercial real estate developer Viaone revealed that it planned to open the ice cream parlor in the first quarter of 2025 when it announced the deal in June.

Although the retail pad was built alongside the anchor Sprouts Farmer’s Market in 2021, there was no previous tenant.

Baskin-Robbins did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the construction timeline or projected opening date.

This marks the ice cream shop’s second try in Maricopa. It first entered city limits in 2005 with a location in the Maricopa Fiesta shopping center, which shuttered in 2013.

The next closest stores are 21 miles away in Chandler and Ahwatukee.

Baskin-Robbins joins Cold Stone Creamery, which opened at The Wells in September, and La Michoacana, set to open soon at the Fiesta, as the city’s newest trio of ice cream stores.
