Editor’s note: The charges against Kasey Martin were dropped.
Maricopa police officers tangled with, tackled and tased a man believed to have assaulted and robbed a woman in her apartment Monday.
The police said Glennwilde resident Kasey T. Martin, 41, was burglarizing the woman’s Hampton Edison rental unit while she and her children were home.
A confrontation ensued, and Martin allegedly assaulted the woman and robbed her of her car keys.
Officers found Martin at his home on West Sussex Drive where they told him he was under arrest and he simply responded: “No, I am not,” while officers struggled to put handcuffs on him, according to the police report.
Martin “received a single knee strike to his left leg and was thrown to the ground where he continued to resist arrest,” the report stated. He was tased and eventually taken into custody without further incident.
Police booked Martin into the Pinal County jail on charges of robbery, burglary, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest. He was also booked on three domestic violence charges of disorderly conduct and one of assault. He faces 34 years in prison.
