UPDATE 2:09 p.m., July 14, 2026: A crash that temporarily closed a three-quarter mile section of Smith-Enke Road sent the driver to a hospital with moderate injuries, according to Maricopa Police Department. 

The crash occurred when the driver “lost control and struck a tree,” causing the driver to be ejected and suffer moderate injuries, said spokesperson Monica Williams. Impairment is not believed to be a factor. 

ORIGINAL STORY 1:37 p.m., July 14, 2026: Traffic on Smith Enke Road between Santa Rosa and Desert Greens drives is closed in both directions following a crash this afternoon.

The collision occurred about 12:40 p.m. in the westbound lanes near Santa Rosa Drive. A white Ram ProMaster van with driver’s-side damage and deployed airbags remained at the scene, according to an InMaricopa reporter.

Police rerouted traffic in both directions while crews cleared debris from the roadway.

Information on injuries or what caused the crash were not immediately available.
