Driver in fatal teen crash ‘still in critical condition’

The driver involved in a fatal crash Sunday remains in critical condition, according to a sheriff’s office spokesperson.

The driver is still in critical condition,” Pinal County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lauren Reimer told InMaricopa of the 18-year-old.

Maricopa police and fire crews responded to the crash at West McDavid Road and North Taft Avenue just before 2:30 p.m.

Officers found the passenger, 13-year-old Rope Justin, dead at the scene, Reimer confirmed Tuesday.

On Monday, Reimer said the vehicle was travelling westbound on McDavid Road before the driver “lost control at the curve, traveled across eastbound lanes and collided with a tree.”

“DUI impairment is suspected, and blood evidence was collected for testing,” Reimer said. “Speed was also a likely factor.”

Pinal County Vehicular Crimes Task Force is investigating the crash.
