Fugitive in August drug bust declared dead at 43

Editor’s note: There’s an update to this story.

Arlie J. Perryman, the 43-year-old Hidden Valley man who fled a Maricopa police stakeout last month and was the subject of a weeks-long search, has died while still on the run.

The Pinal County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Perryman’s death occurred Thursday in Maricopa. No cause or manner of death has been determined.

“The postmortem examination has not yet been completed,” André A. Davis, operations division manager for the medical examiner’s office, told InMaricopa today. “I can confirm that the death occurred in Maricopa; however, this is the limit of the information I am authorized to release at this time.”

Perryman had been wanted since Aug. 7, when Maricopa police attempted to stop him, Susana M. Kelly, 55, and another man leaving their Whirly Bird Road home. Detectives later found methamphetamine, cocaine, LSD, fentanyl powder and a stolen gun inside. Perryman, who had a federal warrant and a history of flight, evaded capture.

Kelly, his longtime partner, surrendered to police Aug. 27 and was booked into the Pinal County jail. She faces multiple drug-related charges.

Four days after Perryman’s death, Kelly created a GoFundMe campaign seeking donations for his funeral.

“My husband, Arlie Perryman, was born Dec. 19, 1981. He was a good man whose life was taken on Sept. 25, 2025. He was a father of four,” Kelly wrote. “I’m asking for your donations so we can lay him down to rest, please and thank you.”

The fundraiser lists Oct. 16 as the tentative date for services, though Kelly noted it was entered only to complete the online form.

Perryman’s death ends a criminal saga that began with the August bust but stretches back two decades. His record includes convictions and charges in Montana, Wyoming and Arizona ranging from vehicle theft to weapons misconduct and narcotics sales.

The medical examiner’s office said it will release cause and manner of death once the autopsy report is finalized.
