Maricopa business owner dies after car accident

Steven Joseph Eggleston, a Maricopa resident for the last 11 years who ran Brakes Plus in Maricopa, has died following a car accident. He was 61.

Born Dec. 2, 1964, in Ogden, Utah, Eggleston was the son of Arlo O. and Joice Eggleston. He spent most of his life in and around Ogden and started working at an early age, including one of his first jobs milking cows.

He graduated from Ben Lomond High School and began working in tire and repair shops at 16. Over the years, he worked at and managed several shops and was known for his dedication and hard work. He spent 20 years with Burt Brothers before most recently opening Brakes Plus in 2019.

Eggleston met many people through his work and was known for remembering customers by name.

He enjoyed traveling, working out, playing blackjack, and chasing speed and adrenaline. Most of all, he enjoyed visiting his daughters Destiny, Justina, Brandy, Caroline and Ashley.

Eggleston is also survived by his brothers Dallas, Charles and Ralph, sisters Shana and Sandi, grandchildren Zoey, Selene, Bailey, Judson, Abby, Bennie and Evilyn, and former spouses Cathie and Darcy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Randal and Brent; and sisters Karen and Darla.

A celebration of life is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Jeremiah’s Lodge, 1307 W. 12th St. in Marriott-Slaterville, Utah.

  1. Steve was a wonderful person. I have been going to Brakes Pus since 2019. Steve always greeted me with a smile and ask what I can do for you today, Terry. Steve became a dear friend and someone that would and could give me great advice. He was one of a kind and I will truly miss him, since there are very few people in this world of his character.
