It’s probably safe to say leaving church or rushing home to watch your favorite reality show aren’t valid defenses to criminal speeding.
A pair of drivers learned that lesson the hard way last week when state troopers caught them flying through southern Pinal County.
The first driver was stopped June 9 after a trooper clocked her at 108 mph on State Route 347.
Her excuse?
She allegedly told officers she was “trying to get home fast to be able to watch the reality TV show ‘Love Island,'” according to a social media post from the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
She was arrested on suspicion of criminal speed and reckless driving. Her vehicle was also sent to what DPS jokingly referred to as “car jail” for 20 days.
The following day, a trooper clocked a driver traveling 93 mph on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.
His explanation was a bit different.
The driver told troopers he was heading home from church and “had known nothing about criminal speed,” according to DPS.
He, too, was arrested on suspicion of criminal speed and reckless driving.
