Dear editor,
At the Tuesday, June 16 city council meeting, there are several items on the agenda that directly affect residents, including updated city facility rental fees with revisions to the city’s facility rental policy, the Maricopa Fire Department annual report, a liquor license application for Buffalo Wild Wings and a request to initiate annexation of approximately 72 acres of unincorporated land in Pinal County, located south of Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and Anderson Road.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Council Chambers.
These are exactly the types of issues residents should be paying attention to. Annexation, growth, infrastructure, public safety, city services and the cost of using public facilities are not small matters. They shape the direction of our community, and they deserve public discussion.
Many residents have questions and concerns about growth, traffic, development, fees, taxes, public safety and whether Maricopa is keeping up with the demands placed on our city. The best way to get answers is to participate in the process, attend meetings, review the agenda, speak during public comment when appropriate and hold elected officials accountable in public.
Social media has its place, and I will continue answering questions there, by phone, by email and in person. But the council meeting is where the public discussion happens, where staff presentations are made, where questions can be asked and where votes are taken.
I encourage residents to attend the meeting, listen to the discussion and make their voices heard. Whether you support an item, oppose an item or simply want to understand what is being considered, your involvement matters.
Maricopa belongs to the people who live here. Showing up is one of the most important ways residents can help shape what comes next.
Sincerely,
Vice Mayor Manfredi
