MHS tennis debuts in Yuma

Maricopa High School’s newest team won two individual matches and one doubles match Thursday at Yuma Catholic High School.

“We did really well individually,” Head Coach Paul Olson said.

Senior Kevin Ngai won the best two-of-three match in two straight games and also won an exhibition match in two games. Junior Jenny Lee also won both of her matches in two straight games.

Alex Buhisan, sophomore, managed to win his first set but then lost the next two which cost him the match. Buhisan and Ngai paired up for the doubles matches and beat their opponents in two sets.

Sophomore Kylie Johnson also competed but lost her match in two straight sets.

Olson said he is proud of the improvement the players have shown since starting practice and believes their success will continue.

Olson added that, unfortunately, because of the small number of players on the team, Maricopa was unable to qualify for a team win.

The Rams will get their next chance at success Thursday when they host Florence.
