Monday night bingo at Duke’s Roadhouse is about more than winning. It’s also about giving.
The weekly event, coordinated by nonprofit Maricopa Moose donates all bingo proceeds to benefit local charities. Every month, the fraternal organization committee votes on a local charity to reap the bingo benefits.
The most recent picks were Maricopa Arts Council and Maricopa Mustangs Special Olympics, receiving more than $1,700 combined. Both checks were matched 100% by Duke’s Roadhouse.
That’s a tradition the restaurant started when they offered to host bingo nights.
“Duke’s liked the concept and idea, and came to us asking if they could match,” said Maricopa Moose President Andrew Anderson.
Kaui Wilson, owner of Art and Sip, accepted the $700 donation on behalf of the Maricopa Arts Council. The arts organization hosts a variety of events, including concerts, lecture series, competitions, galas and gallery events, as well as providing scholarships for local artists.
“We’re here to empower the arts here in Maricopa,” Wilson said.
Gene Coleman accepted the $1,024 donation on behalf of Maricopa Mustangs.
“The reason I even got started with Special Olympics is because of my son, Gage,” Coleman said.
The local nonprofit provides additional athletic opportunities outside of Little League for those with special needs. The organization is in its second season and has more than 70 athletes, ranging from 8 to 56 years old.
Since last October, bingo nights have garnered over $11,500 from proceeds and Duke’s Roadhouse matching.
In addition to supporting local organizations, bingo proceeds help fund a future Moose lodge and Moose International’s residential communities for children and seniors in need, Mooseheart and Moosehaven.
“We’re so happy to be partnered with Maricopa Moose and to match their donations,” said Duke’s Roadhouse Manager Aaron Cicero.
