Maricopa police arrested two people last week in separate drug-related domestic violence incidents that occurred within minutes of each other, according to arrest reports.
Zitevia Nevaeh Bahati-Steward
Police officers just before 1 p.m. Thursday responded to a domestic disturbance on Sandhill Road in Alterra. A woman reported that her friend, Zitevia Nevaeh Bahati-Steward, 19, was “on drugs and attacking everyone in the house.”
“What’s your intention?” Bahati-Steward kept repeating, according to a probable cause statement. Officers detained Bahati-Steward on nearby Zion Road after she initially refused to explain visible bleeding from an unknown injury.
Witnesses told police that Bahati-Steward had verbally confronted her sister and then escalated into physical violence, allegedly striking both her sister and the 911 caller in the face. Officers observed a red mark on the caller’s jaw, reportedly aggravated by her braces.
Bahati-Steward then allegedly turned her aggression toward her grandmother, injuring both of her arms during an attempt to intervene.
Bahati-Steward was arrested on three counts of assault with intent to injure or provoke and three counts of disorderly conduct. She faces two and a half years in jail.
Oscar Medina
It was only a half hour earlier when police had been dispatched to Coltin Way in Rancho El Dorado regarding a separate but similar domestic incident.
Two women told police officers they had locked 34-year-old Oscar Medina out of their house due to his “unpredictable drug-induced state.” Medina allegedly responded by overturning backyard furniture, throwing rocks that shattered a car window and eventually crawling into the home through a doggie door.
Once inside, Medina reportedly threw a bottle at Rodriguez, missing her but damaging a wall. Officers verified the account through physical evidence and video footage. Initially denying any damage occurred, Medina later admitted to throwing rocks after being shown the video.
He was taken into custody at 12:30 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct and criminal damage. He faces a year in jail.
No serious injuries were reported in either case. Both suspects remain in custody pending court proceedings.
