Maricopa Unified School District will offer free meals this summer for children aged 18 and under at select schools in the city.
Families may show up for breakfast and lunch at Maricopa Wells Middle School, Santa Cruz Elementary School or Butterfield Elementary School.
The program operates Monday through Thursday, from June 1 through 25. Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9 a.m., while lunch is offered from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Registration is not required; children must be present and food must be eaten on site.
The district has hosted the federally funded program for 15 years, which MUSD Director of Nutrition Jason Woods said is a way of “ensuring [students] stay healthy and nourished during the summer months.”
“When school lets out, many families face a ‘nutrition gap’ and increased financial strain trying to provide extra daily meals for their children,” Woods told InMaricopa. “This program ensures that local youth maintain access to healthy food during the summer, reducing hunger so students can return to school healthy and ready to learn.”
