A fight at the Dollar Tree on John Wayne Parkway led to a heavy Maricopa police response last night after witnesses said one of the people involved pulled a gun.
The incident happened around 9 p.m. at the Edison Pointe shopping center, where several patrol cars filled the parking lot with flashing lights as officers responded to reports of a weapon.
Senita resident Talonna Poteet, 44, recorded the scene in a Facebook video. “It’s going down. The whole police department is here,” she said, panning her camera across the lot. “Check on your people, make sure everybody[‘s] good, ’cause the whole police department is up here at the 99-cent store. There’s a car right there that they[‘re] searching.” Her video shows multiple Maricopa police vehicles with lights activated.
Jasmin Estep said her sister was in the store when the fight broke out.
“Some kids got into a fight and one of them pulled a gun,” she said.
Maricopa Police Department spokesperson Monica Williams said officers were dispatched to the business after reports of a fight between two people.
“There were reports of a firearm being brandished during this, prompting our larger response,” she said.
Williams said officers arrested one person who had a firearm. That person was booked into the Pinal County jail, and no injuries were reported.
Police cleared the scene after the arrest, and no additional suspects were sought.
Police did not immediately release the name of the arrestee or specify the charges. InMaricopa will publish the arrest details once they’re available.
