(First InMaricopa) At least one person is injured following an officer-involved shooting around 3 p.m. at the Circle K gas station on the northeast corner of John Wayne Parkway and Bowlin Road.
Witnesses who live near the area told InMaricopa they heard “at least six or seven gunshots,” followed by heavy police presence.
“I saw the EMTs watching through the ER doors and then helicopter land,” said one woman who lives near Exceptional Community Hospital.
Preliminary information from witnesses suggest a suspect and officer were shot during the incident. That included Alterra resident Cell Simmons who stopped at the Circle K for gas and came across a bloody scene.
“[I] saw some guy laying on the ground bleeding,” he said. “When I arrived, the cops were on-scene and carrying the officer that was hit to the ER. The guy on the ground, I am unsure if he was alive or not, but a lady at a pump close by mentioned that he was still moving.”
Maricopa police have not confirmed who or how many people were injured.
