Chick-fil-A is on the way: sources

Chick-fil-A intends to build a restaurant in Maricopa, according to a person with knowledge of recent Arizona Commerce Authority communications.

Last year in a statement to InMaricopa, the Atlanta-based evangelistic chicken chain said it was eyeing the city — but couldn’t confirm plans to expand here just yet.

The source today said the planned drive-thru would be located somewhere on North John Wayne Parkway. InMaricopa has identified one specific retail pad in the Southbridge Marketplace that aligns with the specs Chick-fil-A requires of its franchisees.

Less than 1% of those who apply will ever open a Chick-fil-A, according to CNBC, although the coveted rights famously only cost $10,000 for the few approved.

Pad B, to be built as part of the second stage of the Southbridge commercial development, will be a 3,500-square-foot building with dual drive-thrus on the northeastern corner of John Wayne Parkway and Honeycutt Avenue, according to documents filed with the city.

Chick-fil-A restaurants, with their waffle fries, fresh-squeezed lemonade and six-day schedule, typically range in size from 3,400 to 5,000 square feet, according to several commercial brokers.

Other businesses already announced for Southbridge Marketplace are Lowe’s Home Improvement, currently under construction, Panera Bread, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Five Guys, Club Pilates, Pacific Dental Services and European Wax Center.

A Trulieve cannabis dispensary is slated to open in the vicinity early next month.
