Construction at a crash-prone intersection will begin next week, according to an announcement from the city of Maricopa.
Crews will start the first phase of construction Monday, June 15. This includes closing Desert Greens Drive between Smith-Enke Road and Colby Drive as crews construct a westbound right-turn lane on Smith Enke Road, a traffic signal cabinet and a meter pedestal.
Phase two will take place overnight within a two-week window in October. Crews will return to install signal poles and associated equipment for the traffic signals.
This construction is in response to a rash of collisions last year. In response city council unanimously approved the project last April. The project is estimated to cost $874,000, according to the city budget.
