Cougars come to Maricopa

Engle Homes sponsored a car show for the Arizona Cougar Club Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Province.

There were 17 cars in Saturday’s car show, nine of them Mercury Cougars spanning the years from 1967 all the way up to 1990.

This 1954 Ford two-door coupe was one of the non-Cougar models on display Saturday.

One car of interest was a 1968 Cougar XR7-G dubbed a “Dan Gurney Special” with a 428 Cobra Jet engine. The car was one of 14 built in 1968.

The car’s owner, Bill Basore, is the co-founder of Audio Innovations, a car audio system design company.

Another notable car was a 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible owned by Dave and Carol Spry. The car had an immaculate factory restoration and was deemed a High Country Special by Ford when it rolled off the assembly line. Only 30 were built in 1966.
