Bingo nights at Duke’s Roadhouse are anything but quiet. Instead of a hushed room dabbing paper cards, guests get music, dancing and a lively crowd.
“This is entertainment, this is fun. There’s music and dancing in between games,” said Andrew Anderson, the Maricopa Moose bingo MC.
Attendees show up as early as 4 p.m. for food, drinks and to set up their bingo table with their own ink dabbers and a few lucky charms before the games get started at 6 p.m.
And between the laughs and big wins, the event also serves a bigger purpose.

“We’re not only raising funds for our own lodge, but also for Mooseheart, Moosehaven and the Maricopa community,” Anderson said. “We set aside a portion of our proceeds to go back into the community, and [Duke’s Roadhouse] decided to match what we raised.”
On Monday night, the Maricopa Moose International lodge and Duke’s Roadhouse jointly donated $700 to Maricopa Pantry and $310 to Veterans in Need, the lodge’s November and October beneficiaries.
“We, as the Moose, couldn’t be happier. It’s been a win-win for everybody,” Anderson said.

Maricopa Pantry founder and president Alice Shoaf said seeing donations come in is “amazing.”
“It kind of verifies for us why we’re here, because they’re supporting us as much as we support them,” she said. “It feels really good.”
The Moose donation is one of several recent contributions to the pantry amid news of its November groundbreaking. Last week, Hidden Valley internet provider Ponderosa Broadband donated $10,000 toward construction of the pantry’s new food storage facility.
Shoaf said the building shell was completed Monday. The organization still needs $75,000 to finish the warehouse and another $300,000 for a second building that will serve as a community center.

Justin Price of Veterans in Need also welcomed the support. The nonprofit provides microgrants to veterans facing immediate financial crises.
“It’s amazing that we’re really starting to be recognized by other organizations for what we do, and for them to help us help others,” he said.
Duke’s Managing Partner Patrick Denny said he’s glad to see the impact the restaurant can make.

“It’s a very cool thing and everybody wins,” he said. “I’m really happy with what we’ve been able to do over the last eight weeks, and not just for Moose Lodge, but for everybody. We are open to everybody, and we want to support everyone in the community.”
