Randolph John Rose Jr., 41, was set to be arraigned Friday in a Florence courtroom. He was expected to plead not guilty to multiple felony charges stemming from an early morning road rage shooting 12 days ago.
Instead, the hearing was pushed back. Rose needed more time to work with his newly hired Scottsdale attorney, Craig Rosenstein.
Craig Rosenstein is a prominent criminal defense attorney specializing in DUI and criminal cases. He is among only a handful of attorneys in Arizona to be named a Board Certified DUI Defense Specialist by the National College for DUI Defense. He was named a Super Lawyer in DUI Defense annually from 2012 to 2023.
Rosenstein told InMaricopa he had no comment on Rose’s case this morning. Rose did not plead at the hearing Friday nor have Pinal County prosecutors offered a plea agreement yet. A pre-trial conference is set for June 2 in Florence.
Rose, a resident of Maricopa’s Senita neighborhood, is accused of opening fire at another driver April 23 during an apparent pre-dawn road rage incident north of the city.
The shooting happened at 3:47 a.m. on State Route 347, just south of Cement Plant Road. Rose allegedly fired a handgun from his white Dodge Ram truck after another driver, Joseph Mailloux, reportedly made an obscene hand gesture toward him. According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the bullet struck Mailloux in the hand. Both drivers remained at the scene and were interviewed by the authorities.
A homeowner at the address associated with Mailloux said no one with that name lived there and closed the door on reporters.
DPS spokesperson Bart Graves said the authorities believe Rose fired the shot through his passenger-side window. Both the Maricopa and Gila River Police Departments assisted in the investigation.
Rose was subsequently booked into the Pinal County jail on charges including:
- Drive-by shooting
- Aggravated assault
- Discharge of a firearm
If convicted on all charges, Rose could spend 20 years in prison.
