ORIGINAL STORY 3:25 p.m., July 24, 2024: A crash on John Wayne Parkway has stopped traffic on the city’s main thoroughfare.

Northbound lanes are blocked after the 3:15 p.m. crash at the intersection of Alterra Parkway.

Witnesses told reporters a silver Nissan Z sports coupe was making a U-turn during a green arrow signal at that intersection when a red Nissan Sentra sedan ran a red light and struck the car. Airbags were deployed in both vehicles.

“She never stopped,” witness Kathleen Prybylski said of the red sedan. “She plowed right into him.”

A female passenger inside the Nissan Z appeared injured.

Maricopa Police and Fire Departments arrived about five minutes after InMaricopa reporters, roughly 3:20 p.m.
