UPDATE 7:22 p.m. Maricopa Police told InMaricopa a teen driver left the roadway and crashed into the drainage ditch. No injuries were reported, though a parent planned to take the teen to the hospital as a precaution. Officers said there were no signs of impairment, and the crash remains under investigation.
ORIGINAL STORY 7:02 p.m. A Mercedes-Benz sedan left the roadway and landed in a drainage ditch this evening near Carniceria Sonora in Maricopa’s Heritage District, prompting a heavy emergency response.
Multiple ambulances and at least six Maricopa Police Department units were spotted shortly after 6 p.m. near the business following early reports that the vehicle, which appeared to be a white C-Class, had flown past a chain-link fence and into the ditch.
The luxury car came to rest below the fence line with visible damage as emergency crews worked the scene.
A tow truck arrived shortly after 6:30 p.m. while officers remained nearby. Reporters observed a large group of police huddled around two pickup trucks in the Carniceria Sonora parking lot during the response.
The vehicle started being loaded after 7 p.m.
