Pacana Park, Maricopa’s second-largest public outdoor recreation area, is adding a number of new features.
One of them is a long railing along its south parking lot side, which under construction right now. The city says the metal fence is part of its beautification efforts but one local fisherman has already found a good use for it.

“Those refurbishments include adding additional areas around the lake for individuals to fish, painting several structures, refinishing the tennis courts, redoing some of the paver paths and installing decorative railing along the south side of the lake, which is not yet complete,” Williams said.

Maria said the new railing, more than 100 feet of it so far, makes the manmade lake look a lot cleaner. She said it was a good addition to keep adults and kids in the area safe from falling in, adding there’s a playground nearby.
Avid fisherman John said the fence gives him something to lean his pole on while he “chills.”
“Wherever there’s water, I’ll go,” he said.

The park at 19000 N. Porter Road has two covered ramadas with picnic tables and grills and a halfcourt basketball court.
It is open daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
