WATCH: Near-miss caught on camera after truck loses control on SR 347

A dash camera captured a truck spinning out of control on a Maricopa-area roadway early Monday morning. No injuries were reported.

The incident occurred on northbound State Route 347 at approximately 10:15 a.m. yesterday, according to the driver, Robert Smith. He uploaded the near-miss to Facebook, which shows a white pickup truck weaving within its lane before crossing the center and solid yellow lines, eventually losing control and skidding across the road, kicking up a cloud of gravel.

Smith said he first noticed the truck’s erratic movement about a mile before the spinout. Rather than pass, he chose to slow down and keep his distance.

“I noticed the truck weaving in the lane and even crossing the center and solid yellow line,” the driver said. “You can see some of this in the video. I chose not to pass him and hang back because of this.”

When the truck began to skid, Smith focused on staying clear of its path in case it crossed back into his lane.

“When he started skidding across the road, I wanted to be sure I was not in his path,” he said.

The truck came to rest upright on the side of the road, but facing the opposite direction of travel. Smith said he did not stop and assumed the other driver was shaken but not seriously injured.

Smith said he arrived home safely and credited cautious driving for avoiding a collision.

“My wife thanks me for being aware and making it home safely,” he said.

Smith didn’t stick around to find out if the driver was okay or if police showed up. He was just happy to get home safe.

  1. Truck drivers are more aggressive than others. They tend to speed more, drive more erratic and often times are involved in road raging.

But for some inexplicable reason they are pulled over less often.

Cops tend to drive more trucks than cars. Perhaps there’s a correlation here?

  2. Happy you made home safely, really, that was a crazy spin out. Ever think for a moment if that was some old guy having a medical emergency, someone with a blood sugar issue, I wonder how long a person would sit slumped behind the wheel dying or dead before anyone would bother stop and check on them if ever?
