Tiny legs and oversized personalities will be taking over Raceway Bar & Grill this weekend.

A dachshund meetup organized by Rancho El Dorado resident Chloe Jordan is expected to bring wiener dogs and their parents together 6 p.m. Saturday for a night of socializing, vendors and dog-friendly fun.

For Jordan, the event began as a way to help her dachshund, Canela, after the loss of her longtime companion, Shades, in December.

“My girl, Canela, was so close with him and they were very connected. I was just thinking about her and how socializing might help her,” she said.

Shortly after, Jordan’s “Doxies of the Desert” Instagram account was born, followed by plans for an informal meetup. It quickly gained traction, with local businesses and dachshund owners eager to get involved.

Jordan said seeing the response has been “really exciting.”

“I’m the type of person who wants to work on a project or be involved in something,” she said. “So, just seeing how people respond to this in a positive way and be excited for it is so rewarding.”

Attendees can expect craft vendors, food and drink specials, a small ball pit for dogs and possibly even a wiener dog race. Jordan said she’s most excited to watch the dogs interact with one another.

“It’s always so interesting. You got some shy guys, and the crazy ones that can’t stop running in circles,” she said.

If the turnout is strong, Jordan hopes the meetup will become a monthly event.

But for now, she said, “Just getting to see the dogs have a good time is really the point of it all.”
