A large law enforcement presence and temporary traffic detours disrupted the area near Papago and Thunderbird Roads early this morning as Arizona Department of Public Safety detectives served a search warrant as part of an ongoing investigation.

Residents reported seeing multiple law enforcement agencies in the area beginning around 6 a.m., with vehicles being detoured off Papago Road near the Warren curve. Several residents said they heard sirens and believed gunfire may have occurred, though authorities have not confirmed that any shots were fired.

Video shared with InMaricopa shows at least one man, shirtless, being taken into custody in handcuffs by uniformed officers. The footage was provided by nearby Glyde Drive resident Garrett Bonefield, who reported seeing three arrests and nine people detained. An Arizona Department of Public Safety vehicle is visible in the video.

At 7 a.m., Lisa Bejmowicz emailed InMaricopa from nearby Johnson Road saying her husband was detoured while driving to work and that there appeared to be a “big police presence” in the area.

Arizona DPS spokesperson Bart Graves confirmed law enforcement activity but released few details.

“Our detectives served a search warrant near that location as part of an ongoing investigation,” Graves said in an email. “We have since cleared the scene.”

DPS did not release information about arrests, the nature of the investigation or whether any weapons were recovered.

Residents on Allegro Road and Papago Road reported being temporarily blocked from traveling through the area around 6:30 a.m. By mid-morning, residents said traffic had resumed and police vehicles and a helicopter seen earlier were no longer present.

A helicopter tracked on FlightRadar24 showed repeated circling over the area for roughly an hour during the incident.

Some residents speculated on social media that the activity involved a drug investigation, though authorities have not confirmed that claim.

InMaricopa has contacted the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office for more information. This story will be updated as additional details are released.
