A 41-year-old woman is facing shoplifting charges on top of a warrant for assault after she attempted to steal more than $52 in merchandise from Walmart.

Maricopa police responded to a call of attempted shoplifting at Walmart on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway around 3:45 p.m. Sept. 6.

Store security said as Ana Carrasco purchased a pint of ice cream, she placed sunglasses and shorts in a bag at the self-checkout without scanning them. The items totaled $31.64, according to a probable cause statement.

Officers arrested Carrasco and as they walked her out of the store, a security alarm alerted officers of another item. Carrasco told police she had a Zippo lighter, valued at $21.84, in her bra.

During a background check, police saw Carrasco had two previous theft charges in August and a warrant for assault with domestic violence charges in Casa Grande.

She was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting and booked into Pinal County Jail.
