You can’t get a driver’s license in Maricopa anymore

If you live in Maricopa and haven’t gotten your Real ID yet, get ready to drive real far.

A sign taped on the door of the Arizona State Express Title & Registration office at the Maricopa Fiesta this morning read “This Location is Closed Indefinitely.”

The closing of the only MVD-authorized, third-party office in Maricopa comes amid an avalanche of one-star reviews in recent days on Yelp, where the business averaged one star, and Google, where it averaged two.

The MVD provider replaced Baskin-Robbins when it closed in 2013. (Ironically, that business is reopening this month at a new location.)

The nearest MVD offices are about a half-hour drive away in Casa Grande, Chandler or Tempe.

Businessman Lewis Green, who owned the Maricopa office, recently shuttered two other local storefronts. In 2023, he closed two Dickey’s Barbeque Pit locations he owned at the Fiesta and inside Walmart.
