Liquor license approval moves new Circle K closer to opening

A convenience store and gas station planned near Home Depot just cleared another step, with Maricopa City Council signing off on its liquor license last night.

The council unanimously approved the request for the upcoming Circle K at 42150 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. The store will sit at the northeast corner of the highway and Stonegate Road, next to Jiffy Lube and Taco Bell.

The Tempe-based chain’s Maricopa project was first announced in February 2024 by then–City Manager Rick Horst. Plans call for a 5,200-square-foot store with 16 fueling stations on a nearly two-acre lot once slated for Dutch Bros Coffee and Chili’s. Circle K expects to hire up to 24 employees once it opens.

The project received its development review permit in August following a discussion at a Planning & Zoning Commission meeting in May.
