The man accused of drunkenly causing a massive pileup on John Wayne Parkway Thursday has been identified.
James Adams, 27, faces DUI charges, according to the department’s spokesperson Monica Williams.
Police and fire responded to the four-car crash near Cobblestone Farms Drive around 10:30 p.m. Paramedics were seen pulling Adams from a damaged Pontiac Grand Prix in the intersection and placing him in an ambulance.
Adams was transported to a local hospital for his non-life-threatening injuries, Williams said, so formal booking paperwork will take longer than normal.
“The formal charges will be submitted once lab results are received from [The Arizona Department of Public Safety],” Williams said.
A damaged Nissan Altima landed in the median just north of the intersection and appeared to have hit an ornamental light and a gabion in the median.
A Toyota Camry, with its rear bumper dislodged, was parked just south of the intersection. A Kia Seltos, parked on Cobblestone Farms Drive, also had damage to its rear.
“The collision appears to be alcohol-related and a DUI investigation is being conducted,” Williams said Thursday night.
Southbound State Route 347 was closed between Cobblestone North and Cobblestone South. Traffic was rerouted through the neighborhoods.
