Looking for a reason to stretch your drawing and graphic design skills?
Maricopa Friends of the Arts is searching for the perfect logo for the upcoming First Fridays event this fall and they’re confident they can find it here at home.
Susan Cameron, a board member of the organization, said the contest is open to all Maricopa residents with an artistic flair.
“There’s a lot of talent out there … [but] sometimes it’s hard for artists to put themselves out there,” she said.
Cameron said the group is looking for logos that are “creative and colorful,” but also can be easily translated into large and small formats. The logo will accompany the event’s motto, “a mile of fun.”
The winning artist will receive a $100 Visa gift card.
First Fridays is the brainchild of Councilmember Amber Liermann, who said she hopes to see it revitalize Maricopa’s Heritage District and give families a weekend activity.
“People pack up their kids on a Friday night and leave town for dining and entertainment. That takes away the opportunity for community connection,” Liermann told InMaricopa in March. “This is an opportunity to stop that and have people want to stay in Maricopa on a Friday night.”
For more information or to submit your logo, email [email protected]. Logos must be submitted as a high-quality JPEG image no later than June 1.

Payment for a professional level logo should be considerably more than a 100 dollar gift card. Running a contest like this, rather than hiring a professional designer is insulting to artists of all skill levels.
It’s ridiculously simple to create a “professional level” logo. Anyone can make one, regardless of their skill level and because of that simplicity, $100 is sufficient as well as giving the opportunity for literally anyone to submit their ideas.
Some artists would do it for the recognition alone, not the $100. I think this prize is symbolic.
I thought Peggy Chipados retired from the city counsil?Oh that’s right she turned into a lobbyist for the art whatever its called. She is hellbent on taxpayer dollars for an art center. Its in the future budget along with a 100 million dollar park.Yet the seniors still share a small venue with another group. What percentage of the art community versus the seniors in this town is there?Yet she is quietly working with the mayor, counsil and Bitters to shove this down our throats. And deceptively they ran their transportation tax through 2045 when asking people to vote it in as the 347 tax only.Tax and spend, tax and spend.Term limits, complete financial disclosure, and voting records for all on all city business.
