A front window at Maricopa’s only dispensary was smashed during an apparent burglary early this morning.
Maricopa police officers responded to an alarm at the Trulieve dispensary at South Bridge around 3:30 a.m. and arrived to find evidence consistent with a break-in. Details about what was taken and the extent of the damage remain unclear as the investigation continues.
Despite the break-in, customers were still coming and going this morning.
While a reporter was on the scene, an employee declined to comment, saying only, “It’s weird that you’re here taking photos of our damage.”
When contacted by phone, Trulieve managers also declined to comment.
“We were told not to talk to you,” said an unnamed representative before ending the call.
Police have not said whether any suspects have been identified.
Last year, while Trulieve was seeking a zoning permit, Maricopa Police Chief Mark Goodman said in a memo to city staff that “marijuana dispensaries are prime targets for theft and robberies, as they typically have large amounts of cash and valuable products on hand.”
The chief said it would be “good practice to have security people watch the location.”
