Firefighters extinguish Meadows car fire

UPDATE Aug. 30 8:07 p.m.: Two people were in the car when the fire started, but no one was injured, Maricopa Fire and Medical Department spokesperson Monica Williams told InMaricopa.

The driver and passenger “noticed smoke and small flames coming from the engine,” and “were able to get out on their own,” Williams said.

Fire crews put the flame out with 75 gallons of water. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

ORIGINAL STORY Aug. 30 5:37 p.m.: Firefighters quickly tackled a car fire in the Maricopa Meadows community this afternoon. 

Maricopa Fire and Medical Department responded to the report of a car fire on the 45400 block of West Guilder Avenue at 5:08 p.m., according to Phoenix Regional Dispatch. 

Reporters on the scene saw a Dodge Charger engulfed in flames, spewing smoke and ash into the air. Crews with Ladder 574 extinguished the blaze, and remained at the scene as of 5:35 p.m. 

Injuries are unknown at this time.
