UPDATE: Man hospitalized with ‘serious injuries’ in JWP crash

UPDATE – Aug. 7, 9:08 a.m.: The Volkswagen driver, a 30-year-old male who police did not identify, reportedly rear ended the Mustang stalled at the intersection.

The 38-year-old male Mustang driver was taken to the hospital with “serious, non-life-threatening injuries,” according to MPD spokesperson Monica Williams.

Roadway was restricted during investigation and clean up.

ORIGINAL STORY – Aug. 6, 7:04 p.m.: One person ended up in the hospital after a two-car crash on John Wayne Parkway this afternoon.

Maricopa police and fire crews responded to what was first believed to be a five-car crash at North John Wayne Parkway and West Bowlin Road at 6:21 p.m., according to Phoenix Regional Dispatch.

Reporters saw a Volkswagen ID.4 SUV and a Ford Mustang stopped in the southbound lanes of the roadway, south of Bowlin Road. The Volkswagen sustained damage to its front end, while the Mustang had heavy damage to its rear.

A man who was covered in blood was transported to a Valley hospital. The extent of injuries is unknown, public safety spokesperson Monica Williams said.

Police have yet to confirm the cause of the crash.

Southbound traffic was blocked and rerouted through the Copper Sky complex and Alterra.
