Got a million-dollar idea? It could be worth $15,000 this Friday.
Maricopa entrepreneurs can pitch their business ideas for a shot at thousands of dollars in prize money when the Moonshot Rural Pitch Competition comes to Home at Maricopa on Friday.
The Shark Tank-esque contest gives small business owners a chance to present their ideas to a panel of attorneys, entrepreneurs and investors, who will offer feedback and award $10,000 to $15,000 to the top pitch. Participation is free, and lunch is provided for those who pitch.
Greater Maricopa Business Alliance Executive Director Kelly Anderson said this is the second year the organization has hosted the event.
“We want to promote and foster economic growth in our community, and that stretches down to the smallest up and coming business and the amazing ideas that come out of our entrepreneurs,” she said.
Anderson added entrepreneurs will be pitching to actual industry professionals.
“[These are] actual attorneys, these are entrepreneurs, these are people who are angel investors judging this competition, helping really strengthen the pitches at all levels,” she said. “Not just [for] the winner, but they really want to strengthen the pitches, strengthen the business models, strengthen the product profile.”
Winners can advance to a statewide final in October, where they’ll compete against entrepreneurs from 14 other Arizona cities.
Moonshot has run the competition for seven years, focusing on rural entrepreneurs who have access to fewer opportunities to speak with investors and startup funding than businesses in the greater Phoenix area. A Maricopa local earned second place in last year’s Western Pinal County competition.
