Maricopa police have found and arrested the man they suspect of staging an armed robbery at an Alterra home one month ago.
Police yesterday arrested 20-year-old Keyaun Christian at his home on Bowlin Road. He lived just a half-mile from where the robbery took place Aug. 29.
According to police, officers were dispatched just before 10 p.m. after a man reported being robbed at gunpoint while attempting to sell $450 worth of clothing through Facebook Marketplace. The victim told officers he agreed to meet with an unknown seller in front of a nearby home at 9:30 p.m.
When the 911 caller arrived at the meetup spot and went to retrieve the clothing from his car, an unknown man pushed a handgun against the victim’s left side and took the clothing. The man allegedly fled on foot.
Throughout September, officers obtained a search warrant to find the suspect, who had used a dummy Facebook profile account under the name “Greg Popavich,” a name apparently inspired by the great San Antionio Spurs coach. Police found the phone number associated with the account, as well as IP addresses, which were associated with Christian and his family.
On Thursday morning, police found and arrested Christian outside his home. Through a search warrant, officers said they uncovered clothing from the robbery, a handgun with a loaded magazine and the victim’s cell phone.
Christian allegedly refused to answer questions following his arrest. He was booked into the Pinal County jail on felony charges of armed robbery. He could face up to 12 years in prison if convicted.
