Copper Sky is moving forward with plans to expand its pickleball facilities.
The city plans to add six outdoor pickleball courts next to its existing courts, replacing the current sand volleyball area, according to a new site plan released Tuesday.
The document shows the sand volleyball courts being relocated slightly north, where they would sit between the new pickleball courts and the existing basketball courts.
The project is part of a broader expansion outlined in the city’s capital improvement projects earlier this year. The city budgeted $800,000 for the design and construction of the new courts.
“The city currently only has six available pickleball courts, which is already a shortage for residents,” project details in the city budget state. “The first official league in Maricopa started in October 2024. However, there is not enough space for organized play and drop-in play.”
Additional courts are also planned at Copper Sky. The Fieldhouse at Copper Sky is expected to include 12 indoor pickleball courts when construction is complete next summer, bringing the city’s total to 24 courts.
