Dad and son get tased in ‘donkey-style’ police encounter

Don’t bring ropes to a taser fight.

It’s a lesson a father and son learned after a fight with the police at their Senita home Sunday night.

Maricopa Police Department arrested 21-year-old Dylan K. Rope on charges of resisting arrest, aggravated assault on a police officer and criminal nuisance. His dad Dave Rope, 45, was arrested on charges of obstruction, hindering and resisting arrest, according to a probable cause statement obtained by InMaricopa.

Both had active warrants for their arrest — dad disobeyed a judge after pleading guilty to a theft in Page and son was caught with narcotic drugs.

Officers were called to the Rope family home on West Estrada Street in response to Dylan screaming uncontrollably.

His brother, whom police did not identify, tried to take the fall for Dylan. He told cops he was Dylan — police didn’t question his admission and tried to handcuff him, but he resisted arrest. That’s when Dave walked out the front door and came clean about the ruse.

Cops tried to find the real Dylan, but dad Dave blocked them from entering the home.

Officers tried to explain to Dave that what he was doing was illegal, but with no luck. Dave allegedly resisted arrest and cops “threw him to the ground” and tased him.

Cops confronted Dylan in the hallway where he “squared up” and began “flailing his arms and legs” while screaming at officers. “A taser had to be utilized to get Dylan into custody,” the police document stated.

When officers loaded Dylan into a squad car, he kicked an officer “in a donkey-style manner.”

Both father and son were transported to the Pinal County jail.

Dylan, who has priors for fighting and drug possession, faces more than a decade in prison. Dave faces more than three years.
