Duke’s Roadhouse submitted new building and signage plans for its restaurant at Maricopa and Edwards Roads to the city planning department last week, according to a public records request.
An updated elevation shows placement for the new sign, a vintage neon roadhouse sign with an arrow and a script-style font. The 8-by-7-foot neon arrow will be mounted to the façade, not on top of the roof as was first planned.
An updated site plan illustrates the proposed extension of Edwards Road, located immediately south of Duke’s, with crosswalks and lane dividers. The road will run under the John Wayne Parkway overpass to the Southbridge Marketplace currently under construction.
When the extension was discussed in a Maricopa Planning and Zoning Commission meeting in February, City Planner Derek Scheerer confirmed developers would work “in conjunction with the city” to construct the road. However, exact plans for coordinating the extension were not immediately available.
Overall, construction on the site has been slow and an estimated completion date has not been announced. Demolition occurred at the beginning of the year and current crews continue to work on interior and exterior construction.
However, that hasn’t stopped the nightlife destination from flirting with entertainment in the city.
City officials last month announced Duke’s Roadhouse will be the main sponsor for Maricopa’s fall concert series starting next month that features a lineup of Arizona-based country bands.
